Hi! I’m Ajab, Founder and Owner of Calligraphy Quill.
As a solo-creativeprenuer (yes, that’s a thing), I wear a lot of hats at any given time. Some of these include social media strategist and manager, photographer, writer, bookkeeper, business and PR manager, and of course- designer and creative director.
I currently live in Michigan but was born and raised in Chandigarh, India (at the foothills of the gorgeous Himalayas. Google it). I married ‘my person’, Rajvir, in February of 2016. He is the momentum behind this journey, and I’d be kidding if I said I could have done it all without him.
Calligraphy Quill (or CQ as I lovingly call it) was born in July 2016. Handwriting had always been a huge part of my life growing up. I studied in an all-girls Catholic school where we were taught cursive in the elementary grades. Moreover, my parents always stressed the need for neat and pretty handwriting. Soon enough, I realized that good handwriting was in my genes and that I only needed to hone it. The cherry on the cake came when one of my friends, Courtney, recognized this talent and persuaded me to pursue it. Enter, calligraphy.
Since that afternoon of July 3, 2016, I’ve given myself completely to this gorgeous art. Apart from the sheer beauty of the letters, calligraphy gives me a sense of peace and stillness. It’s my meditation. When I’m creating, it’s only me, the pen and the paper. All thoughts disappear, and a calm spreads over me. This is also why I’d strongly recommend you to try calligraphy for yourself. Not only will you be able to write gorgeous script, but the peace that you’ll experience will make you come back to it again, and again, and again…
In these last few months, CQ has given me the opportunity to address wedding envelopes, design bespoke logos and save the dates, do calligraphy on place cards, design handwritten canvas signs for baby showers, make mirror seating charts for weddings, participate in styled shoots and create stunning gold foil posters among other things.
This year, I have gone a step ahead and am now offering fully custom wedding invitations.
When I got married, my best friend from school, Parulle, designed my invitations, hence making them so meaningful for me. What made them extra special, however, was the fact that no one had used my design before- and that no one would use it again. My wedding invitations were unique to me. If this sounds like you, you and I can be best friends forever.
So far, I’ve written not only on paper, but also glass, wood, walls, windows, iPhones (true story bro), phone covers, leaves, wifi hotspots, ceramics, wine glasses, plastic, marble, agate slices, shells – to name a few. My aim this year is to #writeoneverything, and I’ve still got a few surfaces remaining (I’m currently eyeing my car haha!).
My passion is creating unique and custom-made beauties that speak to the soul, which is why I love it when my clients and I work directly with each other. I feel that business is all about Trust, and the best way to earn trust is to keep communication honest, efficient and simple. By the time I deliver my final products, my clients end up becoming my friends- to be cherished and valued forever.
I’ve been lucky to have come across amazing people who gave me opportunities to challenge myself. I have learnt new calligraphy styles along the way (both classic and modern), worked on different media, came across gorgeous pieces that I could write on, held workshops for calligraphy enthusiasts, and also learnt more about Adobe.
When I’m not creating, I can be found either (a) lounging in jammies- scrolling through Pinterest and dreaming-up my ideal life, or (b) Skyping with Rajvir , or (c) napping. Cheers to all the nappers out there!
Before I leave, if you’re wondering what I’m up to every day, I can be found hanging-out at a few of my favorite places:
I’d love to connect with you so please stop by and say hi!
Sending lots of love and good wishes your way,
